Cammy has been a singer of songs since shortly after he stopped wearing nappies - around the age of 12! Already an enthusiastic collector of songs, after re-hearing Eric Bogle's 'No Man's Land' (commonly 'Willie McBride', 'The Green Fields of France', or even, erroneously, 'The Floo'ers o' the Forest'), he decided he must make folk his destiny.
A percussionist to trade, the Bodhran seemed the obvious instrument to begin with. In spite of tutelage from Ronnie Browne, a conventional playing style still eludes Cammy, even if it sounds right!
He went on to learn mandolin, tenor banjo, guitar, concertina and bazouki and is currently struggling with the autoharp, but it's not about the instruments - Cammy just loves to see a happy audience. Everything else is a bonus. The Big Fella is married to Gerry and has two wonderful daughters, Murron and Maggie. He is probably the finest interpreter of Burns' Poetry and song alive, an enthusiastic writer of parody songs and a strong advocate of life-long learning. He is a Past Master and the treasurer of Lodge Paisley St Mirrins No 129.
